Report Design Components
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Report Name | Select or enter the name of the report. This appears in the GL Reporting dropdown. |
| Report Type | Select GL as the report type. |
| Line | Determines the order of items in the report. Use increments of 100 to allow space for future insertions. Example: 100, 200, 210. |
| From/To Account | Define a range of GL accounts to include. Example: From 100 to 400. |
| Section | Alternatively, select accounts by Account Type (e.g., OVERHEAD). Cannot be used with From/To Account. |
| Seq | Sequence number for sub-lines under the same Line number. Useful for combining multiple ranges under one heading. |
| Type | Defines how the line behaves: |
- Detail: Lists each account in the range
- Summary: Summarises the range on one line
- Section Detail: Lists each account in a section
- Section Summary: Summarises a section on one line
- Total: Displays a calculated total
- Heading: Adds a heading to the report
- Blank Line: Adds spacing between sections
Best Practices
- Use line increments of 100 to allow flexibility for inserting new lines later
- Use Sections for dynamic grouping by Account Type
- Use Print Total and Add to Totals to build subtotal and grand total logic
- Use Copy Report to quickly replicate and adapt existing designs
Limitations
- You cannot use both From/To Account and Section on the same line
- Report designs must be saved before they appear in the GL Reporting dropdown
- Descriptions with overlapping substrings may cause drill-down confusion
